Sugarland Lyrics
Brush up on your Sugarland lyrics now and be ready for when this 2008 Sugarland tour schedule hits your town. To help, I have featured a couple of Sugarland lyrics right here on this page. The lyrics are from two of Sugarland's best loved songs. That's right, these are the lyrics to "Stay" and "Baby Girl". If you never learn Sugarland lyrics to any other song, these two are integral to understanding why the Country duo have become the buzzword in Country music circles in 2008.
Stay lyrics
I've been sitting here staring at the clock on the wall
And I've been laying here praying, praying she won't call
It's just another call from home
And you'll get it and be gone
And I'll be crying
And I'll be begging you, baby
Beg you not to leave
But I'll be left here waiting
With my Heart on my sleeve
Oh, for the next time we'll be here
Seems like a million years
And I think I'm dying
What do I have to do to make you see
She can't love you like me
Why don't you stay
I'm down on my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely
Don't I give you what you need
When she calls you to go
There is one thing you should know
We don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay
You keep telling me, baby
There will come a time
When you will leave her arms
And forever be in mine
But I don't think that's the truth
And I don't like being used and I'm tired of waiting
It's too much pain to have to bear
To love a man you have to share
Why don't you stay
I'm down on my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely
Don't I give you what you need
When she calls you to go
There is one thing you should know
We don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay
I can't take it any longer
But my will is getting stronger
And I think I know just what I have to do
I can't waste another minute
After all that I've put in it
I've given you my best
Why does she get the best of you
So next time you find you wanna leave her bed for mine
Why don't you stay
I'm up off my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely
You can't give me what I need
When she begs you not to go
There is one thing you should know
I don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay, yeah
"Stay" was written from quite a controversial perspective, namely that of a married man's mistress. It illustrates the poingnancy of Sugarland lyrics, as well as a being a typical Country love song. The lyrics succinctly capture the dilemma of a woman who loves a man she must share with another; the age-old dichotomy of infidelity and its natural "punishments". The woman thinks things through as the song progresses and eventually decides she loves herself too much to deny herself a normal healthy relationship where she enjoys access to her partner whenever she needs him.
Baby Girl Lyrics
They say this town,
The stars stay up all night,
Don't know can't see'em,
For the glow of the neon lights.
And it's a long way from here,
To the place where the home fires burn,
Well it's 2,000 miles and one left turn.
[chorus]
Dear Mom and Dad,
Please send money,
I'm so broke that it ain't funny.
I don't need much just enough to get me through.
Please don't worry 'cause I'm alright.
(I'm playin here at the bar tonight)
This time I'm gonna make our dreams come true...
Well I love you more than anything in the world.
Love,
Your Baby Girl
Black top blue sky,
Big town full of little white lies,
Everybody's your friend you can never be sure.
They'll promise fancy cars and diamond rings,
All sorts of shiny things.
Girl, you'll remember what your knees are for.
[repeat chorus]
I know that I'm on my way,
When I can tell every time I play.
And I know it's worth all the dues I pay,
When I can write to you and say...
Dear Mom and Dad,
I'll send money. I'm so rich that It ain't funny.
Well it oughtta be more then enough to get you through.
Please don't worry cause I'm alright,
I'm stayin here at the Ritz tonight,
Whatta ya know we made our dreams come true!
And there are fancy cars and diamond rings,
But you know that they don't mean a thing,
Well they all add up to nothin compared to you,
Well, remember me in ribbons and curls...
I still love you more than anything in the world
Love,
Your Baby Girl
(Your baby girl.....
Dear Mom and Dad,
Please send money,
I'm so broke that it ain't funny,
Don't need much just enough to get me through,
Please don't worry cause I'm alright,
I'm playin here at the bar tonight..
Dreams come true....)
"Baby Girl" was Sugarland's 2004 debut single and it made Number 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts later, in April 2005. The song enjoyed great longevity in the country music charts, thanks largely to the heart-rending Sugarland lyrics it contains. It is the touching story of a daughter who sets out to fulfill her dream in the music business. She writes her parents for money when times are tough. By the final verse, their "baby girl" has achieved her fortune as a musician. The song has been heralded as both beautiful and significant and it has raised the bar on modern lyrics. After all, Sugarland lyrics are the best!
